The French plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market had 4,542 registrations in April, up 43% YoY, with a big portion of this growth coming from pure electric vehicles (BEVs). In total, BEVs scored 3,222 deliveries last month (+70%), with those all-electric cars representing 71% of all plug-in vehicle sales. This growth is even more significant when we realize that the overall vehicle market remained stagnant (+0.4%).
The US solar market is now over 2 million installations, and forecasts expect solar installations to double by 2023, according to Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The Q2 record comes just three years after the industry completed its 1 millionth installation, a feat that took 40 years to accomplish.

EVgo has become the first EV charging network in the United States to contract 100% of the energy needed to power its customers with renewable energy this week. This was made possible thanks to a host of new renewable energy purchase contracts and Renewable Energy Credit purchases that all of the electricity consumed by customers on its charging network directly support renewable energy generation.
Earlier today, Volkswagen held a press conference and livestream in preparation for the launch of the new all-electric ID.3 hatchback. Although we didn’t learn very much new information, VW came across as very serious, and one or two interesting points stood out to me. Reservations are open now (at least, in some European markets). These are for the initial 30,000 customers of the “ID.3 1st” launch editions.
Tesla presented its latest and greatest vehicle autonomy features at its recent Autonomy Investor Day. The brain of the system is the Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer, which is now included in all Teslas being produced. The Autopilot hardware suite includes 8 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, radar, GPS, an inertial measurement unit, and sensors that measure the angle of the steering wheel and accelerator pedal.
Mercedes-Benz announced the start of production for its EQC this week, as chairman of the board Dieter Zetsche announced that, “this is the dawn of a new era at Mercedes.” At a starting price of 59,900 euros, the EQC will be well-equipped, but will initially launch with the preconfigured 400 4MATIC Edition 1886, at a premium price of 84,930 euros.
Johnson Controls Power Solutions has sold off its automotive battery business to Brookfield Business Partners for $13.2 billion. That includes its more than 16,000 employees across 56 locations around the world. Brookfield Business Partners is rebranding the business unit as Clarios.
