After reserving a Model 3, I streamed every video about Tesla and Elon Musk I could get my hands on. As the information regarding Mr. Musk’s background and career came streaming in, it suddenly dawned on me that the man had completed the classical tale of “The Hero’s Journey.” Are you familiar with the myth? If you don’t think you are, you actually are. You just haven’t gotten around to reading any Joseph Campbell and putting a name to it. If that is the case, may I fill you in on the myth and how well Elon fits into it?
Pop quiz: You arrive at the annual church picnic in your brand new Tesla. You park amidst a variety of gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Having the only pure electric vehicle at the event, you are soon surrounded by a crowd of gawkers, cooing and praising your beautiful automobile. A voice in the crowd inquires about the unique motor in your Tesla, and you provide an answer that has the crowd smiling and nodding their heads up and down. Sensing your mastery of all things Tesla, another onlooker asks why Tesla Motors is so closely linked with Silicon Valley.
Even though we’ve been following GreenWay’s development since before it entered Poland, I was surprised to get the news that it recently opened its 100th EV fast charger in Poland — even before Fastned hit that target! Additionally, I’ve found it surprising and uplifting to learn about broader EV fast charging development in Poland and nearby countries, with the news mostly coming to me from fellow Tesla Shuttle cofounders Jacek Fior and Tomek Gać. After checking out a brand new fast charger down the street from me with Tomek, who was visiting in a Renault Zoe, and talking to him about it (video coming), I decided to do a whole piece on this topic. Below is my interview with Jacek about how electric vehicle charging has evolved in recent years.
Just few years ago, zero-emission deliveries in cities did not exist at any scale. They were only possible via bicycle couriers, which, of course, were limited the capacity of the backpack. Then at the beginning 2011, things started to change. The first popular EV (electric vehicle) — the Nissan Leaf — reached dealerships and heralded the start of new era. But it wasn’t really ideal for courier deliveries.
Idling a vehicle every day for a year could cost as much as $950 in wasted fuel, according to a document published by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has announced it will increase its investment in a German battery factory to 1.8 billion euros. It says battery demand in Europe will reach 100 MWh by 2030.
Chinese automaker JAC Motors (江淮汽车) launched an electric-only ride-hailing service called Hexing (Hexing on-line Hailing) (和行约车/Hexing Yueche) on the 9th of January in Hefei, Anhui, China. I have been monitoring this service since launch. Today, I will explain the service, its future expansion plan, and my experience in the vehicles.
I’ve come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

GBatteries has been working on a new EV charging solution that it believes will slash charging times while preserving the longevity of lithium-ion batteries. CleanTechnica connected with GBatteries’ co-founder Tim Sherstyuk to dig into the solution that sounds too good to be true to see if its claims hold water.
