Porsche just held the launch event for the all-electric Taycan, sharing useful new information on WLTP range (up to 241 miles on the highway) and 0–62 mph acceleration time (as low as 2.8 seconds), thanks in part to great aerodynamics. We’ll have more coverage from the event itself in the coming days, but here’s a quick piece on the key information.
Despite not surpassing some of its combustion peers over the full lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, a recently released onboard lap video shows that the Porsche Taycan has effectively outperformed its Panamera sibling (and the BMW M5 and M5 Competition) over the twisty first half of the course. This indicates that on the vast majority of the world’s race circuits, where mid-speed corners dominate over high speed straightaways, the Taycan will be able to lap faster than the Panamera and similar 4-door saloons, such as the BMW M5.
Fully Charged’s Jonny Smith was given a unique opportunity to test the Porsche Taycan’s performance consistency, and was able to confirm its ability to handle repeated acceleration runs without running into thermal limits. The Taycan looks to be similar to the Tesla Model 3 Performance in this respect, but will come in at around twice the price of the Tesla.
CleanTechnica just received an exclusive spy shot of the Porsche Taycan charging in the US at Electrify America’s HQ in Reston, Virginia.
Porsche says Taycan drivers will be eligible for free charging at Electrify America locations for three years from the date of purchase. At 350 kW, a Taycan can add 60 miles of range in 4 minutes.
Porsche this week let slip a few details about its upcoming electric car, the Taycan. It will have three trims starting at about $92,000 and going up to well over $130,000. Those prices are pretty much in line with those for the Tesla Model S and Model X.
