Sometime in 2018, the all-electric BMW i3 will be getting a battery pack upgrade to 43.2 kilowatt-hours (kWh) — allowing for an EPA range rating of 150 to 155 miles per full charge — according to rumors circulating right now, including from a quite reliable source.
It seems BMW doesn’t get have an i5 to throw at the Tesla Model 3, but it has rolled out a slightly sportier i3 for people who just needed a little nudge to go for the compact Bimmer.

This review summarizes my early learnings in my first day with the new longer range BMW i3. A comprehensive review will follow, but I have found that some of the most important and impactful learnings about a vehicle arise very early on in vehicle use, as that is generally the time in which prospective buyers will make their decisions.

The BMW i3 is one of those electric cars that doesn’t get enough love (in my personal opinion). It’s a stunning vehicle, “the most advanced vehicle on the planet,” according to respected engineering outfit Munro & Associates. It offers a totally awesome driving experience, premium interior that’s on another level, the best visibility in town, an insane turning radius, a superb parking package, adaptive cruise control, super strong regen braking (strongest in the industry last I heard), high-quality batteries, and the choice of a range extender.
It seems as if the Bavarian carmaker BMW has secretly started testing the 94 Ah (33 kWh) European i3 battery pack upgrade for the US market, a market that rightfully deserves it!
