Tesla raised the bar for the in-car infotainment experience with its massive 17″ displays in the Model S and X, then flipped things on their side with a 15″ landscape display in the Model 3. The large, responsive touchscreens brought the familiar interface from all of our smart devices into the car while allowing almost endless opportunities to innovate through future software updates.
The Tesla Model 3 has broken through traditional electric vehicle market segmentation and into the mainstream. That is great news for the planet, as tens of thousands of new electric vehicles are displacing fossil fuel vehicles each month. However, that also comes with a new set of challenges.

BMW is now officially taking reservations for its fully electric iX3 in Norway for buyers willing to drop a 15,000 Norwegian krone (€1,550 or $1,800) deposit. The fully refundable deposit locks in a spot in line for the highly anticipated fully electric sport utility vehicle when it moves into production in 2020.

I have a reservation for the Tesla Model 3 due to be delivered by the end of the year. So, while I ponder on what to do next, let me recap which EVs I have experienced in the last 7 years. Luckily I have a bunch of electric bikes (some hand-built) that I can ride in the meantime, and I promise you they are nothing you would expect — but that’s another story.

GreenPower Motor Company has charged into the medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle market with an array of vehicles that it designed and built from the ground up to be electric. Building the vehicles from the ground up allowed GreenPower to optimize the location of the batteries and the location and style of the motors, among other things.
This review summarizes my early learnings in my first day with the new longer range BMW i3. A comprehensive review will follow, but I have found that some of the most important and impactful learnings about a vehicle arise very early on in vehicle use, as that is generally the time in which prospective buyers will make their decisions.
My comments include the background of time I’ve spent with the vast majority of electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles available in the United States (including owning at various times the Nissan LEAF, Tesla Model S, and Mercedes B250e).
