February had 2,457 plug-in vehicle (PEV) registrations in February, up 232% year over year (YoY), which translates into a PEV share of 8.2%. That pulls the year-to-date (YTD) count to 5,713 units (+213%) and a 7.4% market share. Within the PEV market, fully electric vehicles (BEVs) represented 80% of registrations, or 5.9% of overall market share.
The German plug-in passenger car market was up 17% to 6,767 registrations in January, with a seismic change happening in the fuels mix.
A major media outlet in Germany reported this week that the Mercedes-Benz EQC is sold out for 2019, and probably 2020 as well. In an interview with Welt Online*, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said, “We are sure that we will not be able to meet the demand in 2019 and probably not by 2020.”
The Dutch plug-in electric vehicle market started 2019 on fire, as January had 3,271 plug-in vehicle (PEV) registrations. That was a doubling in sales year over year (YoY) and translated into a PEV market share of 6.9%! … And this is before the official landing of the Tesla Model 3. But more on that later.
The German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) passenger car market ended the year dropping 10% in December, to 5,711 registrations, with fully electric cars continuing to expand (+12% YoY) while plug-in hybrid electrics couldn’t find a way out of their hole (-35% in December). Fully electrics (BEVs) now clearly outselling plugin hybrids (PHEVs) — 67% PEV segment share for BEVs in December, and well above the 2018 average (53%).
The Jaguar I-PACE was the best selling vehicle (of any type) in December, while the Tesla Model S was the #1 plug-in vehicle for all of 2018.
After a positive October, the German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market slipped again in November, down 2% to 6,266 registrations. This is in the midst of a seismic change happening in the fuels mix, with full electrics (BEVs) jumping +41% YoY while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) continue sinking (-39%). Full electrics now outsell plug-in hybrids by a decent margin, flipping the script on this market (68% share for BEVs in November).
The Netherlands had 3,499 plug-in electric vehicle registrations in November, up 221% year over year (YoY). That was the market’s best month since December 2016. Overall, it translated into a plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) share of 10% and pulled the year-to-date count to 20,516 units (+153%). The 2018 PEV share has thus grown to 4.8%, with fully electric cars (BEVs) representing 87% of those registrations.
After a slip in September (-12% year over year), the German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) passenger car market returned to a growth path, growing 6% in October with 5,292 registrations.
The Netherlands had 2,058 plug-in electric vehicle registrations in October, up 147% year over year (YoY), which translates into a plug-in electric vehicle share of 6.8% in the country. That also pulls the year-to-date count to 17,035 units, with the 2018 plug-in electric vehicle share now growing to 4.3%.
