Every diesel vehicle over 10 years old is now effectively banned from operating in any part of the entire city area of Stuttgart, home to Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and 630,000 residents. The move signals the first serious diesel ban in any German city. A mid-year review of the resulting pollution rates will decide if many of the remaining diesels, older than 5 years, will also be banned from 2020.
I’ve followed Tesla closely for about 7 years. Confident predictions about Tesla’s imminent death have been commonplace for much longer than that. These have come from armchair auto experts, retired auto executives, non-retired auto execs, high-rolling short sellers, low-rolling short sellers, clueless or pretending to be clueless TV hosts and journalists, paid trolls, and probably others I’m forgetting to honor here.

In the year 2019, that includes flamewars on social media, paid trolls & misleading message makers, ties to mainstream media, fanboys & fangirls fighting back, and even a legal battle between the SEC and Twitter-loving CEO Elon Musk. Oh yeah, and billions of dollars on the line.
I’ve had the fortune to review 3 (at this point in time) high-quality, easy-to-maneuver electric bicycles. I like all three. They are quite different, like the various electric cars are quite different — although, similar compared to tractor-like gas/diesel vehicles.
When people ask me which will be this year’s best selling EV, the answer is simple: Tesla Model 3.
But when people want to know more, I can guesstimate that the runner-up spot should come from one of these three models: Nissan Leaf, BAIC EC-Series, or BYD Yuan EV, with the Japanese hatchback probably surpassing the Chinese models.
After a 3 month streak of record-breaking sales, plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in December just kept on pushing forward. China registered over 180,000 PEVs in December, making it the 4th record month in a row and achieving 70% year-over-year (YoY) growth. That meant that 2018 sales ended north of the 1 million units mark. Yes, over 1 million PEVs in one year. And to think that 2017 was the first year that plug-ins reached 1 million sales globally. Whoa.
