After a slip in the previous month, in October, the European passenger plug-in market resumed its growth path (+24% year over year) via some 32,300 registrations, pulling the year-to-date count to over 300,000 deliveries (+34%). The 2018 EV market share grew to 2.3% thanks to a 2.9% share in October.
After a slip in September (-12% year over year), the German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) passenger car market returned to a growth path, growing 6% in October with 5,292 registrations.
The French plug-in electric passenger car market registered 3,888 registrations in October, with all-electric models growing fast (+60%), while plug-in hybrids remained in a post-NEDC hangover (down 2%) — year to date (YTD), though, PHEVs are still jumping 35% year over year (YoY).
In September 2018, the European passenger plug-in vehicle market stagnated (+1%), scoring some 32,700 registrations. That pulled the year-to-date count to some 275,000 deliveries, meaning a 2.2% market share in 2018 so far.
The French plug-in passenger car market had 3,799 registrations in September, with all-electric models continuing to grow (+10%) while plug-in hybrids were in a post-NEDC hangover (down 9%), something that was expected. For the year through September, the country had 43% year over year (YoY) growth.
The German plug-in electric passenger car market was down 12% in September, to 4,626 registrations, with PHEVs stumbling 24% year over year (YoY). This was no doubt due to the pre-WLTP summer sales rush. Nonetheless, fully electric cars (BEVs) kept on growing (+5%), allowing full electrics to sell at the same level as PHEVs.
The European passenger plug-in market grew slightly above average last month (42% in August vs 41% year to date). The continent registered some 30,000 plug-in cars, pulling the year-to-date (YTD) count to some 242,000 deliveries and pushing the 2018 market share to 2.3%. For the month of August, the market share was 2.7%.
The German plug-in vehicle (PEV) passenger car market grew 23% in August, to 5,888 registrations, with BEVs growing slower (+13%) than PHEVs (+31%). In 2018, fully electrics saw their share drop slightly to 0.9% share, while plug-in hybrids remained stable at 1%, making the total PEV share now 1.9%.
The European passenger plug-in market slowed down a bit to enjoy the holiday season, registering some 27,000 registrations in July. That’s an increase of 30% compared to the same period last year. It pulled the year-to-date count to some 212,000 deliveries (+41% YoY), while the 2018 EV market share remained stable at 2.2%, which, incidentally, was the same market share registered in July.
The German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market grew 31% in July, to 5,617 registrations, with BEVs growing faster (+39%) than PHEVs (+28%). In 2018, fully electric cars are now reaching 1% market share on their own and so are plug-in hybrids, resulting in a total PEV share of 2%.
