Solar powered cars are a novelty today, but are they about to go mainstream?
An electric car that runs on sunlight is bound to get the press going and commenters seething about whether the possibility is practical or not. But even if the technology is not 100% there yet, is it not reasonable to pay attention to the early startups that could potentially become tomorrow’s established electric vehicle (EV) and autonomous vehicle (AV) leaders? In a rarefied field, Lightyear proposes the One, an EV that runs on sunshine … somewhat.
We previously wrote about an interesting project called the Lightyear One, a fully solar-powered electric car. The project just recently won the prestigious Climate Change Award at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Lightyear is an electric car company in The Netherlands whose mission is to develop, manufacture and sell solar-powered cars that will accelerate the electric car revolution by eliminating one of the biggest drawbacks — the lack of charging infrastructure.
