The European passenger plug-in market had a near-record month in June, with 28,000 registrations, up 54% over the same month last year. For the year through June, the market is up 30% this year, with the EV share now standing at a record 1.5%.
The European Union’s commissioner for industry, Elzbieta Bienkowska, has warned against proposed city-level diesel car bans, stating that if such bans were to go into effect, they would compromise the ability of auto manufacturers to invest in the development of electric vehicles (zero-emissions vehicles).
The top auto manufacturers in Germany — VW, Daimler, and BMW — have been holding “secret” meetings since the 1990s where coordination relating to product pricing, supplier choice, diesel engine emissions management, etc., has been taking place, according to the German newspaper Der Spiegel.
First of all, let me say that if anyone else creates a superfast charging network anything close to Tesla’s, I’ll be one of the first people to cheer it on and I may cheer it more loudly and broadly than anyone else. My goal is to stimulate the transition to zero-emissions transport as quickly as possibly, not to loyally attach my dreams to one company over every other one because I like the logo. Companies that do good stuff deserve to get praised and rewarded.

The electric car revolution is coming. In fact, it is picking up speed as companies like Volvo say that all of their cars will have a battery and electric motor by 2025. Whole nations such as India and France are suggesting they may ban the sale of cars with internal combustion engines in coming years. Most people assume that lack of charging infrastructure is the primary barrier to more electric cars being on the road, but Volkswagen believes (as others do) that a lack of batteries will be the biggest factor. In fact, Volkswagen believes the world will need the equivalent of 40 Gigafactories by 2025 to meet the demand.
