Well, it was last month actually, and I didn’t outright purchase a Chevy Bolt EV, I leased one. I test drove the Bolt back in early 2017 when they first started showing up in dealer showrooms and wrote about the experience. You may know that I’m the proud owner of a day 2 reservation for a Tesla Model 3 and have been patiently waiting for the base model car to start shipping.
It was 6 weeks ago, early December 2018, that European reservation holders were asked to configure their Tesla Model 3’s. The expectation was deliveries would begin somewhere in second half of the first quarter of 2019, but many were also doubtful of that timeline.
In this article, I will discuss handling of the Tesla 3 (and other cars) in slippery conditions. I’m not going to cover frozen door handles or reduced range in the winter. Those could be issues that you might want to research and I encourage you to do that. They’re just not part of this article.

For this week’s article, I’m going to update an article I published about 3 months ago on giving rides in your Tesla. I’ve been an EV owner for over 7 years (6½ years as a Leaf owner and 6 months as a Tesla Model 3 owner) and have been offering rides in my EV the whole 7 years.
We’ve now had a 2015 BMW i3 REx for 6 months. We’re a family of four. The young ones are 2 years old and 4 years old, so don’t go to school. We have no other car in the household, but I work from home and my wife is a full-time (+ overtime) mom. We could pay for a garage and have a place to charge, but we decided after moving here that we didn’t need that.
Back in 2015, we bought a 2013 Tesla Model S and purposely purchased it from the Tesla Service Center in Columbus, Ohio, even though we live in California. It wasn’t the closest location to our home in Ventura, but it gave me the opportunity to see how the car and Tesla’s Supercharger network stacked up to the hype when put to the test.
