Last holiday weekend, my brother in law (who also loves to test drive cars) suggested I drive 6 cars and get $265 in gift cards. I thought, “I get to drive cars, I get gift cards, and its a great story idea” (well, I guess you the reader will be the judge of that). What is the downside? Well, dealers calling me for the next month and asking if I want to buy the car I drove.
As I’ve noted a few times this week, I’ve been digging through our archives (it’s a long story) in recent weeks. I’ve found a handful of fun and perhaps enlightening gems in the process. Elon Musk shook things up on Twitter a bit this week. Some fans got concerned Tesla would stop selling cars at some point, but the core point was simply that the value of Tesla cars will go up a lot once Full Self Driving is implemented. Elon clarified that what he meant was simply that the price was going to go up significantly.
The French passenger electric vehicle market scored 5,847 registrations in June, up 25% year over year (YoY). That plug-in double-digit growth is even more significant when we realize that the overall market remained stagnant (-2%). This result placed the 2019 plug-in vehicle (EV) share at 2.5%, with fully electric vehicles (BEVs) alone having 1.9% share.
The Dutch plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market had another great month in June, with 4,543 plug-in registrations, up 196% year over year (YoY). That translated into a PEV share of 11%. The year-to-date (YTD) count reached 20,047 units, which means a market share of 8.9%, well above the 6% of 2019.

I’ve spent the past week or so thoroughly looking through our archives. In the process, I’ve run across some pretty funny and interesting old articles. This one below is from nearly 6 years ago! Tesla delivered a grand total of 5,500 cars in the quarter this was published (Q3 2012). I went on a cleantech tour of Ukraine at that time (Kiev and Crimea, just before Russia invaded Crimea), and there were many highlights, but it’s hard to compete with the handmade electric car below. Driving to Las Vegas in an electric vehicle is NOT a big deal and I don’t have to spend any significant amount waiting for my car to charge — certainly not 5 hours!!!
USA Today published an article yesterday with the headline “Why Tesla ‘has a problem appealing to women’: Electric cars, Elon Musk may be off-putting.”
The article goes on to talk with a couple of women who described why they don’t want a Tesla and list their own reasons — and that’s fine. However, they don’t represent all women, especially many female Tesla owners and female Tesla fans planning to purchase a Tesla.
