Volvo Polestar Green With Performance
After a decade of pointing to the obvious, the Volvo Polestar goes green with performance — it’s about time to see hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and pure electric vehicles (EV) finally take up that task.

OK, this is probably one of the easiest titles to pull off — “Geely buys Terrafugia and takes to the skies.” The consequences of one of the biggest carmakers in the world continuing its buying spree, this time with a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) startup, are interesting and revealing. China is still very determined to build its transportation industry in order to better compete in the international arena.
It seems as if the Bavarian carmaker BMW has secretly started testing the 94 Ah (33 kWh) European i3 battery pack upgrade for the US market, a market that rightfully deserves it!
The Arcimoto team, based out of Eugene, Oregon, did a great job with its electric three-wheeler, the SRK. I think an electric three-wheel platform, otherwise known as RT3, is one of the most ideal solutions to urban mobility, allowing for fast and convenient hops throughout the city. And the Arcimoto SRK certainly looks like it would be fun to own, whether I lived in a city, the countryside, or the desert. I briefly test drove an early version of the SRK at the Los Angeles Auto Show and was immediately impressed.
Autonomous vehicles have been in the news a lot this year, including the French autonomous shuttle maker NAVYA ARMA, which just announced its first assembly plant outside Europe will be in Michigan, US.
I’m particularly happy to bring up an electric bicycle (e-bike) that fits in the under-represented sub-$1,000 entry price level. The Populo Bicycles Urban enters this rare and illusive rarefied e-bike market rarely mentioned in mainstream news, is one the most hotly discussed items
It’s hard not to be impressed, if not left scratching our head when we see such unique carmakers as Aston Martin recently announcing their wild exotic hybrid, the Valkyrie. The Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar’s performance is equally as impressive as its dramatic body shapes are designed to evoke in us.
I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for all things quirky and out of the ordinary. Although we brushed upon electric unicycles in the past, and cover them from time to time, the Kiwano K01 electric unicycle certainly fits the bill when it comes to one-wheel efficiency.
Riding fat wheels on electric bicycles and scooters can be a thrill if the electric motor is up to the job. We’ve covered two dual-motor electric bikes (e-bikes) so far that were silly fun to maneuver in corners — the EVO Big Bud PRO from Emotion and the MOAR foldable fat tire e-bike. It certainly sounds as if the Phat Scooter is shooting for something a little different, which should appeal to many as well.
The concept of low- to no-pressure travel through tubes has been around for a few hundred years, but it’s clearly facing a revival of inspiration lately. It continues to capture imaginations as a promising future mode of transport, but also now investment dollars.
Today, the idea of achieving high-velocity travel in a controlled tube environment may have made a step forward, thanks to the startup Hyper Chariot Network.
