Sunshine State To Appalachia In 2015 BMW i3 REx — Day 0 To Day 2

Although day one of BMW i3’s long-distance journey to Appalachia from the Gulf Coast of Florida was documented a bit in an earlier post, I will backtrack a moment to day zero.

I don’t have a lot of range in this small electric car. It does have a small gas tank in time of low range to get you to the next charging station, but planning is certainly needed. I had mapped out my route on a MacBook Air, but the computer’s mood (or light) dropped the morning I was to leave the Sunshine State. The screen was black even though it seemed the Mac was running. I took off anyway — with my phone to guide me and the electric car from charging station to charging station.

2015 BMW i3 REx Goes Long Distance To Find The Heart Of America — Florida…

To begin, I want to thank my personal patron saint of long-distance small-EV travel, Zachary Shahan. He plotted my trip for me from charger to charger since my MacBook Air took a hiatus and blacked out on me the morning I left the Sunshine State for the Appalachians in a small 2015 BMW i3 REx. My travel log lost, Zach kept me abreast of each charging location on my phone, and updated them as the trip went along and plans changed. I also found some extra stations with the navigation on the dash of the i3.

Long story short: below is finally the article I was planning to write about our fuel costs after ~9 months driving an electric car in Southwest Florida.
