China Claims Donald Trump’s Views On Climate Change Are Softening
Speaking in advance of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, China’s special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua has said US President-elect Donald Trump’s views on climate change are softening.
A lot has already been said about Donald Trump’s criticism and outright-skepticism of climate change, and the beliefs of those who have been nominated to administration positions. As we have seen, it does not bode well.
However, in an almost out-of-the-way note from the opening of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting being held currently in Davos, Switzerland, China’s special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua has said that he believes US President-elect Donald Trump’s views on climate change are likely to shift after he takes office on Friday.
“Trump has softened his tone on whether climate change is real,” said Xie Zhenhua, speaking to the Government-run China Daily.
Xie Zhenhua also claimed that he was not worried about the future of bilateral cooperation between China and the United States. “Collaboration on climate change has never ceased amid the political tensions,” he said.
Whether Xie Zhenhua knows more than we do, is living in his own political world, or is actively trying to mitigate the damage he believes Donald Trump is likely to cause once he takes office, well, I don’t think we’re going to find out anytime soon.
