Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe Shares A Quick Look Inside The R1S
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe shared a quick look at the new R1S interior on Twitter yesterday. Scaringer has said before that the R1S was designed to take families, friends, pets, and gear on long road trips to the places you love. Now, thanks to the video he shared on Twitter, we get to see the inside of the trunk and the rear seats.
Alongside Scaringer was Stacy from the quality team. The two wanted to answer some questions they’d been seeing. They demonstrated the functions of the vehicle — from the tailgate to the lighting to how to fold the seats.

The first thing they showed off was how to open the liftgate, and the lights that illuminate the trunk which is helpful at night. When Stacy opened the lower tailgate, RJ pointed out that the lights were great for anyone sitting there reading a book. The tailgate also provides a platform for workloading.
RJ and Stacy then demonstrated the flexibility of the little hooks on both sides of the trunk space that could be used for hooking up the gear. Another common question that RJ answered was whether or not the seats could fold flat.
Stacy manually folded the third-row seats and then pressed a button on the side that folded the second-row seats. With the third-row and second-row seats in place, the trunk becomes enormous. RJ Scaringe easily demonstrated this by climbing inside and lying down. He added that he was six foot something and, with a laugh, Stacy agreed. “He’s pretty tall, guys,”

The Rivian R1S starts at $72,500 for its Explore package and dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. Its Standard battery pack offers 260+ miles of range. Rivian is expected to start shipping these to customers in 2024. The quad-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain starts at $84,500 and comes with a large battery pack that offers 316 miles of range.
