For a great day out, we recently went with the Tesla Owners and Fans Brisbane group to Samford. We visited the Store of Requirement with all things Harry Potter and had lunch at the Flying Nun. The homemade burgers and cakes were yummy. The group hadn’t been able to meet for 12 months due to covid restrictions and associated risks. It was great to see everyone again.

Before lunch I got chatting with the owner of the café. He was most intrigued by our electric cars, so I kidnapped him and showed him the Tesla Model3 SR+ before lunchtime got too busy. He enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the car and have a play with the screen. I answered all the usual questions about cost, charging, and range. He loved the fact that we could plug in anywhere with the mobile charging cord. He wants to buy one but said he can’t afford it yet.

Unfortunately, the Potterphiles were too busy serving, but we did get a great photo of Tess (our Tesla Model 3) with the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter book 2, “The Chamber of Secrets.” Two magic cars together, one enhanced by the magic of a wizard and the other designed by a wizard of an engineer. I know a little about internal combustion engines, having worked for a short time as the lowly assistant to a lawnmower mechanic but I know next to nothing about electric motors and the mysteries of how the Tesla works. Pure magic to me.

Over lunch, Jarryd told me the story of his black Model S 85D and Lawrence told me about how he got solar installed on his drugstore. Look for those stories soon on CleanTechnica. The convener of the group, Hana Rubinstejnova, shared her poem:

Ozone shield is full of holes

And nowhere any rain, OUT with fuel that gets burned

Bring on EVs! Let’s use the brain, Sleek as a smile, dream to drive

Old habits die-hard and slow, For future gen to thrive

CO emissions have to go, It’s no brainer for the fans

In the love with Tesla, Sexy wheels with zero fumes

‘Safety first!’ reports the test lab

Comes the time future is here, tons of EVs on the show

Range anxiety no longer a fear, Charger networks quickly grow

And a great time was had by all!
