Lightning Systems Launches New Energy Division Focused On Making Fleet Charging Easy

Colorado-based electric powertrain builder Lightning Systems has launched a new division focused on bringing the latest EV charging solutions to its customers. In addition to simply providing EV chargers and supporting financing, the new division will help fleet managers build a comprehensive charging system to ensure they are up to the task of providing round the clock charging to keep the fleet on the road.

“Many fleets that plan to purchase vehicles don’t have the charging infrastructure in place to use them,” Tim Reeser, CEO of Lightning Systems said. “The simple fact is that getting charging right is hard, complicated work, and it can take longer to install than most realize. Get it wrong and you face either fleet downtime due to insufficient charge, or you spend too much money on stuff you don’t need.”

Lightning Energy was born out of years of discussions with customers before, during, and after purchase as they proceeded along the journey to electrifying their fleets. Time and time again, a disproportionate amount of time was spent on the more exciting, more tangible, more familiar vehicles while charging was little more than an afterthought. In reality, charging requires far more planning to execute and a level of mastery that few fleet managers possess or even seek to understand.

“With 12 years of deep experience working with fleets, our team’s understanding of the specific charging needs of fleets of all sizes is extensive,” said Tim Reeser, CEO, Lightning Systems. “We now offer a full array of vehicles and charging solutions as a one-stop shop for all of a fleet’s commercial EV needs.”

A new charging as a service (CaaS) model is also being launched, allowing fleet managers to ink a contract for end to end charging support including infrastructure installation, permitting, utilities liaison, maintenance, and ongoing management software, and regulatory credit monetization, to operate small, medium or large fleets of electric vehicles. “Outsourcing a fleet’s charging infrastructure reduces their exposure to risk and significantly simplifies EV deployment,” Brandon McNeil, executive director of operations at Lightning Systems said.
