BYD’s Fully Electric Refuse Trucks Make It Easy To Upgrade Fleets To Zero Emissions
Noisy trash trucks may soon be a thing of the past if BYD has anything to say about it. In partnership with Hudson County Motors, BYD is providing the first fully electric rear loader refuse collection trucks to the East Coast of the US. the new trucks will have sufficient range to run typical full day routes in Jersey City, providing not just zero emission service, but nearly silent service.
“Jersey City will be a model for what is now possible with zero-emission refuse trucks.” says John Gerra, Sr. Director of Business Development with BYD Motors. “We look forward to helping provide clean streets and clean air for the residents of Jersey City.”
Heavy trucks running around neighborhoods typically consume diesel and spew out noxious fumes that irritate us consciously, but also cause chronic respiratory conditions. I can think of few projects that seem more pressing than eliminating vehicles emitting diesel pollution right in our neighborhoods where people eat, live, sleep, and play. With BYD’s new fully electric refuse trucks now capable of running daily routes, what excuse do refuse companies have for not upgrading fleets to a modern, zero emission fleet?
The Jersey City project was supported by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Sanitation Equipment Corp. The deal was brought from concept to reality by BYD’s authorized truck dealer for Northern New Jersey, Hudson County Motors.
