This week, Gilbarco Veeder-Root introduced the Amps2Go Series 6 level 2 EVSE. It was designed to make fleet and public-facing customer charging easy for business owners to add and manage while lowering the up-front cost compared to DC fast charging solutions. The new chargers are a natural extension of Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s extensive experience in fleet fueling solutions and speak to the transformation of the entire auto industry, with fleets playing a significant role along the way.

With many fleet vehicles sitting in a depot overnight, Level 2 charging is more than sufficient to recharge vehicle batteries before they are called again for duty the next morning. Gilbarco Veeder-Root has positioned the Amps2Go charger to capitalize on this with a lower cost Level 2 charger. Installing a bank of Level 2 chargers rather than DC fast chargers not only slashes the capital required to purchase and install the units themselves, but often avoids the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades required for faster EV charging systems.

Gibarco Veeder-Root dove deep into the needs of fleets and found an unaddressed opportunity in the overnight fleet charging space. Think about school buses, postal service vehicles, last mile delivery vehicles, and more. Amps2Go was purpose built to address this gap, while offering connectivity and intelligence through its EKOS software platform to help fleet managers digest EV charging financials in parallel to traditional petrol-powered vehicle data, powered by SemaConnect.

“We are really excited about partnering with SemaConnect who bring with them smart technology and a strong track record in the Level 2 space,” said Deepesh Nayanar, Head e-Mobility, Gilbarco Veeder-Root. SemaConnect has refined its Level 2 EVSE software over the course of deploying thousands of chargers across North America. The backbone of the solution is the EKOS platform, which adds enterprise grade functionality to enable station owners or hosts to buy, manage, and perform the necessary transactions to support EV charging and fleet management data flows.

“Given their unique presence in the fueling world, we are thrilled to be a part of Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s efforts to enable fuel retailers and fleets to provide consumers with more options when it comes to fueling their vehicles,” Mahi Reddy, CEO of SemaConnect, said.

The design of Amps2Go also puts fleets first, with a slender but durable NEMA 3R certified aluminum shell that ensures durability and longevity. The slim profile of the charger seems like it would give fleet managers more options when the time comes to install a bank of chargers. The low profile design can be wall mounted, pole mounted, or installed in pairs in a pedestal mount configuration. They are also available in a dual port configuration which sports two charging adapters.
