David is always full of fascinating stories from his 7 years spent at Tesla, and launches this podcast with a story of Model S deliveries in the summer of 2012. He had been in California the summer prior, and traveled back to the Northeast to set up the first team on the other side of the country, and the start of home deliveries there. While originally his team would travel in pairs to deliver each Model S in person, David recounts his first solo delivery as the number of cars being delivered ramped up.

As David explains, his first solo delivery was to an oil sheik from the Middle East, who owned dozens of cars. While at first David was convinced the Tesla he delivered would sit idle in the garage, as the person in charge of the garage said that he didn’t ever drive some of the cars and may never touch the Tesla, it just so happened that the oil sheik did drive it and loved the car so much that he started to ignore his collection of luxury vehicles and only drove the Tesla. To David, this reaffirmed how amazing he believes the cars to be. It was a memorable first solo home delivery.

David briefly discusses some thoughts on Tesla Battery Day as well, a coming event run by Tesla to update investors on its battery technology and manufacturing, and provides a bit of input on the Tesla Cybertruck. He also gets into a discussion with Zach about Tesla’s pace of innovation and how it sets Tesla’s work apart from competitors in the same field.

To hear more about these topics, as well as a few other fun and quirky stories from David’s time at Tesla, listen to the show!

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
