The Tesla Model 3 was Italy’s best selling EV in September. According to Italian EV blog Vai Elettrico, electric vehicle sales increased by 156% from September 2018 to September 2019. Over 1,200 vehicles were registered and Italy saw the market share rise up to 0.9% of the total. 325 Tesla Model 3s in total were sold in September, accounting for 26% of the country’s EV sales.

Model 3 Italy's Best Selling EV

In 2019, a total of 7,707 electric vehicles have been sold in Italy. Italy has set aside €60–70 million a year in incentives for people who buy electric vehicles. The country has a goal to sell 10,000 electric vehicles within a year.

In the first 9 months of the year, 1,491 of those EV sales were Model 3 cars, making it the second best elling electric car in the country, followed by the Renault Zoe and its 1,796 sales. The Smart Fortwo came in second, followed by the Nissan Leaf.

The Model 3 has been a best seller in many other parts of the world, such as the Netherlands and Norway, where it is the top selling vehicle (of any type) in the country. In the US, it has made it to the #9 position among cars (not including trucks and SUVs). In August, the Model 3 was the third best-selling vehicle in the UK. All of these trends only preview what is to come in Italy.

As China begins production later this month, we will most likely see the Model 3 become a best-seller in China as well, as the demand for made-in-China Tesla is high and sales are expected to surge.

As Tesla continues to add fresh innovation into an age-old industry by mixing the latest technology with sleek designs, we will see a continued rise in sales of electric vehicles.  It is like an airplane beginning to take off.

In the case of the airplane, the pilot releases the brakes and advances the throttle to increase the engine power to accelerate down the runway. Then they manipulate the nose wheel until the speed is at that right point where the wind makes the nose wheel steering unnecessary. As the plane gains speed, the air moves faster over the wings and creates a lift.

Tesla is that plane, and it’s already speeding down the runway. I believe that the last quarter of 2019 is where it will finally meet that point where it’s no longer on the ground driving but in the air soaring, entering a new phase in the realization of its continued goal of accelerating our transition to sustainable energy. Already, we have seen record delivery numbers, and Gigafactory 3 is about to start production, the Tesla Pickup will soon be unveiled, and many countries around the world have already seen Tesla as a top-selling brand.

China is the momentum that will enable Tesla to take flight and gain in popularity and stability in more markets worldwide. Not only does Tesla have the full support of the Chinese government, but demand is soaring.
