Achieving a real zero waste clothing brand

zero waste daniel by New York-based designer and maker Daniel Silverstein is the very definition of trash to treasure. All garments are made from 100% scrap textiles with a zero waste philosophy that is applied to every aspect of the brand. The brand’s mission? To tackle and change industry norms by reimagining design and creation without waste. The brand creates unique fashion pieces by applying the art of sewing to the bounty of scraps, due to the fashion industry’s wasteful practices. The best part is that the collection is bold and unapologetic, achieving both a distinctive look and world-leading standards on sustainability.

“We are activists, we are weirdos, we are the kids who thought we’d never find someone else who cared as much as we do,” claims the company’s website. Promising! We looked into it to find out that not only are VAUTE Coats made locally in New York City’s garment district, but they are also 100% vegan and consist of organic fibers and recycled fibers, including recycled plastic bottles pulled out of Italian rivers, and recycled cotton fibers left over from large corporations’ lines. Another of VAUTE’s characteristics is to consciously create limited runs of its designs, in order to produce less material waste in its supply chain. Seems like a great fit!
