SOURCE Global Brings Clean Water To Puerto Rico Using Nothing But Sunshine
SOURCE Global’s hydropanels harness the power of the sun and use it to produce from thin air. The panels were put to the test recently when the SOURCE Global team went down to Isabela, Puerto Rico to install a bank of its Source hydropanels to improve the resilience of the water supply in Puerto Rico. The island territory is still recovering from the catastrophe that the United States’ response to hurricane Maria was, with much of the water supply on the island still unstable. In parallel, 20 nations in the greater Caribbean and Latin American region have already or are working to enact a ban on single use plastics, making it even harder to secure what little clean water there was in the region in Puerto Rico.

In Puerto Rico, SOURCE Global was sought out specifically to provide local communities a base supply of water during extended droughts. To date, the company has installed panels at two different locations on the island:
- A new array of SOURCE hydropanels at The Center of Aging Candido Crispin Jorge in Isabela, Puerto Rico was installed. The new array is expected to produce 600 liters of drinking water per month for residents, rain or shine.
- In Utuado, Puerto Rico, SOURCE hydropanels were installed at the local fire station to provide a stable source of drinking water to area residents after Hurricane Maria rolled through the island in 2017. The installation in Utado is the third installation of SOURCE hydropanels at a fire station in Puerto Rico and the tenth installation in the country. The Utado installation produces up to 750 liters of water per month for the community.
SOURCE Global’s efforts in the Caribbean are being channeled through the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator. The initiative was created when progressive leaders of Caribbean nations and world thought leaders like Sir Richard Branson and Usain Bolt came together to define and create the world’s first ‘climate-smart’ zone.
The accelerator is broadly focused on increasing economic opportunities in the Caribbean region, but with a focus on climate-smart solutions. That may sound like greenwashing because we have heard so many climate this and green that descriptors thrown about that we’re desensitized to them now, but the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator is the real deal. They are specifically working to define and develop new companies that are working on disaster preparedness, recovery and resilience, investing in low carbon development and breaking down barriers to climate-smart growth.

SOURCE Global’s panels continue to be sought out to solve the challenge of clean water in areas where it has turned into a crisis. Now that its SOURCE hydropanels have been installed in 20 countries around the world, they are increasingly capable of solving some of the most wicked water problems on the planet with clean water pulled straight from the air using nothing but sunshine.
