On April 6, 2019, the UK’s very first electric vehicle rally is taking place. It is named the Electrohead Rally, starting out from London at 10:30 in the morning and travelling via Oxford and the Cotswolds to the Celtic Manor, a luxury 5-star hotel near Newport in South Wales.

Any profits from the event will be donated to Buildaid, a UK charity that was started in 2005 by a team of built environment professionals in response to the South East Asian Tsunami and now continuing their work in various building projects around the world to help disaster struck communities.

The organisers contacted the CleanTechnica Editorial Office asking us if we would like to give them a mention. Keen on anyone promoting EVs, we are obliging them. It could be a pleasant way for anyone wanting to take part to spend an enjoyable weekend helping to promote EVs in the UK while going for a pleasant drive and enjoying the delights of 5-star venues and food at the start and finish. Even if you can’t make the journey, you could go to the start line to cheer them off on their way.

Any EV owners in the UK wanting to take part can find full details on the Electrohead Rally website. All food and accommodation is included in the price, and charging and support will be provided on the route. We wish them every success.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...

As a child, I had the unrealistic expectation that I would learn about, and understand, absolutely everything during the course of growing up. Now, at the other end of life, I am fully aware of how much I have not learnt and do not understand, and yet, I remain interested in everything. My education, starting with an arts degree and going on to postgraduate studies in everything from computer science to hypnotism reflected my broad interests. For 20 years, I worked in local government. I am now retired, living in North Leicestershire in the UK, with plenty of time for doing whatever I like. I have always had a keen interest in everything alternative, which includes renewable energy and energy efficiency and, of course, electric vehicles. So, naturally, I have taken ownership of an EV, now that they are affordable and practical forms of transport. Writing is also one of my great pleasures, so writing about EVs and environmental issues is a natural evolution for me. You can find my work on EV Obsession, and CleanTechnica, and you can also follow me on twitter.
