Nikola Motors Buys 400 Acres In Arizona For New Manufacturing Facility
Nikola Motors has big plans to disrupt the heavy trucking industry with a lineup of 3 hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric class 8 trucks. Its second vehicle, the Nikola Two hydrogen fuel cell truck, will debut at Nikola World next month. Just ahead of the big reveal, the company announced that it has purchased 400 acres of land in Arizona for its manufacturing facility in a deal with Arizona real estate developer Saint Holdings.
Nikola plans to use the land to build a new manufacturing facility for its class 8 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The new factory is expected to bring 2,000 new jobs to the area directly, along with thousands of indirect jobs in the surrounding community.
President and CEO of the Saint Holdings, Jackob Anderson, said on LinkedIn that, “Today, in partnership with Nikola Motor Company, we announced the acquisition by Nikola of approximately 400 acres of property in Pinal County at Inland Port Arizona in Coolidge.”
Nikola Motors selected Arizona as its new home early last year and relocated its R&D and headquarters accordingly, but the original plans it had for its manufacturing facility location fell through. The 1 million square foot factory was originally planned for a 500-acre parcel at Sun Valley Parkway, but the deal was never inked and the company has now found a new suitor.
CleanTechnica will be on hand at Nikola World for the big reveal next month as Nikola Motors gets increasingly closer to actually building trucks and the massive network of renewable hydrogen fueling stations that is required to keep them running. Speculation has been running rampant about whether or not the company will actually build the class 8 trucks it has been promising customers and investors for years, and next month’s event should give us a great look at what’s really going on at Nikola Motors.
