Hot on the heels of the news of Shell New Energy acquiring sonnen, the company is restructuring its North American leadership team. Blake Richetta has been named CEO of the new sonnen Inc, which will focus on expanding the company’s presence in North American markets. A team of industry-hardened leaders has been formed into a US Board of Directors to support the renewed push into new and existing markets for sonnen’s products.

The restructuring is a sign that sonnen is confident in its product offerings and preparing for a rapid expansion into global markets for its energy storage products. In the near term, the board will be focused on pushing sonnen’s solutions more fully into North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

sonnen Inc’s global parent organization, the sonnen group, will continue to be managed by CEO Christoph Ostermann, who had a few words to say about the restructuring:

“Our business in the U.S. has grown quickly over the last few years with a focus on new market innovations and sales expansion. We plan to continue this rapid growth in the years to come and for this, we will need the right strategies and leadership in place. We are delighted to establish a deeply experienced Board of Directors to achieve this acceleration and continued expansion of our business in the Americas.”

sonnen’s line of residential energy storage solutions bring unparalleled intelligence into the home, starting with their intelligent energy management solution. The internet connected solution not only stores up locally generated solar electricity and keeps the lights on during power outages, it leverages the power of the cloud to look for any storms that could take the power out. If a storm or severe weather event is detected, the battery will suck up as much power as it can to ensure that it has the highest state of charge possible just in case the power goes out.

The sonnen ecoLinx takes those capabilities to the next level with the addition of home automation technologies. For starters, ecoLinx can be connected up to internet-connected smart breakers, like Eaton’s smart breakers which allow ecoLinx to throttle up and down power to individual electrical circuits in the house. This provides capability for the system to dynamically reduce power consumption when the home is running off of the battery.

Under Blake’s leadership, sonnen has established some unique and innovative partnerships with homebuilders like Pearl Homes to develop the next generation of environmentally responsible homes. Installing storage in an entire neighborhood opens up new options for thinking about energy consumption and local energy generation differently. sonnen continues to push the boundaries and this new restructuring points to a desire to push these solutions out into more homes and more new communities in North America.

The newly established US Board of Directors formally pulls together and empowers the existing core leadership team at sonnen under Blake as Chairman to get sonnen’s smart energy storage solutions out into the world. sonnen all-star Carlos Restrepo will serve as the CTO, Brent Stayer as the COO, and James Chaflin will keep tabs on the money as the CFO.
