The plug-in vehicle charging fiends over at ClipperCreek have rolled out a new line of its proven high-power Level 2 chargers, which have been beefed up to better withstand the elements.

Two of ClipperCreek’s most popular chargers, the HCS-60 and HCS-80, have been given the extra dose of durability, with new over-molded J1772 connectors that improve the durability of the charging connector. This is aimed at helping reduce the impact of connectors falling to the ground, getting run over, and the like.

Field-replaceable connector latches on the ruggedized unit allow for more rapid field servicing of the connectors in the event that they are damaged. To give customers increased peace of mind, the new chargers come with 5-year warranties, revealing ClipperCreek’s desire to get more of the units out into public parking lots, fleet charging depots, and locations where extreme weather is more common.

“ClipperCreek’s standard products are very robust, all have NEMA 4 rated enclosures for indoor or outdoor installs. The overmolded ruggedized SAE-J1772TM connector takes our already tough products to another level,” said Will Barrett, Director of Sales.

The two new offerings join ClipperCreek’s existing ruggedized offerings, the HCS-40R and PMD-10R. After releasing the first two ruggedized options for customers, ClipperCreek saw strong demand for higher-power options, so it rolled the improvements out to the two new higher-power units.

Like their non-rugged counterparts, the new products offer 48 or 64 amp Level 2 charging for 11.5 to 15.4 kW charging. To make charging even easier, ClipperCreek went with a 25 foot lead of its new slim high-power cable that is more flexible, especially in cold weather.

The new units are already available at clippercreek.com for $100 more than the standard HCS-60 and HCS-80 units. That puts the ruggedized units at $899 and $969, respectively.
