Porsche is taking a page out of Tesla’s playbook by offering buyers of its Taycan all electric 4 door sedan free charging for the first three years using the high power chargers available from Electrify America. The Taycan, which will have an 800 volt battery, will be able to add 60 miles of range in just 4 minutes using a 350 kW charger.

That is significantly faster than what Tesla owners can achieve using the company’s Supercharger network. However, Tesla is planning to increase the power of its chargers soon. It is believed the Model 3 is capable of using higher power chargers and the company may have other news regarding its Model S and Model X vehicles pending after it stopped taking orders for those cars equipped with the 75 kW battery recently.

According to TechCrunch, Electrify America plans to have 300 charging stations  in 42 states available along America’s major highways and an additional 184 charging points in metropolitan areas. Each location will have an average of 5 chargers while some may have as many as 10. All of the locations will be under construction by July 1 of this year, says Electrify America.

The high power chargers will use a liquid cooled charging cable manufactured by Huber+Suhner. But the supplier has identified an issue with the cables that could be a safety concern. As a result, all the high power chargers in completed locations have been shut down until the problem is identified and a solution implemented, according to Engadget.

Electrify America CEO Giovanni Palazzo has issued a statement saying, “Out of an abundance of caution, Electrify America is shutting down all of our stations that use the HUBER+SUHNER high-powered cables until we can confirm that they can be operated safely. We are confident that HUBER+SUHNER will investigate and resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

It’s rather a moot point, as the Taycan won’t arrive in America until later this year. Presumably, all the glitches with the new chargers will be ironed out long before there are any cars on the road that can take advantage of such high power chargers. The remaining question will be whether Porsche Taycan owners try to use the Electrify America network for their daily charging needs, something early Tesla owners liked to do until Elon put the kibosh on the practice.
