Mullen Technologies Opens Reservations For Limited 300-Mile Qiantu K50
More news is trickling in about the Qiantu K50 electric sports car that will be assembled by Mullen Technologies. A limited 1000 series reservation is now open to the public.
Mullen Technologies (Mullen) has announced that you can now make a reservation on its new website.
The limited edition signature series will sport 300 miles of range. Of course, it also comes with priority production, as well as upgraded tires, Qiantu’s unique carbon color, and a racing-boost feature — think Formula E boosting here.
We reached out to Mullen for more information on the Qiantu K50 to complement the press release. The electric sports car will rest on a flexible platform to accommodate various battery configurations. Mullen told us the intent of this was to make the Qiantu K50 easily upgradable.
Upgradable electric vehicles are key to the success of our future mobility. After all, EVs are rolling computers. This is in stark contrast to traditional carmakers and current car technology, which is bassically obsolete within a few years. Which model do you think consumers prefer? Simply put, I’d say fewer people are willing to dish out a great deal of money every few months or years for incremental updates.
Mullen and Qiantu are working to make sure their EV platforms will be used for many years to come, and will be as upgradable as desktop computers. Notably, this is a philosophy whole heartedly embraced by other EV startups as well, such as Byton, according to the many interviews we’ve had with its CEO & Founder, Carsten, and President & Co-founder, Daniel Kirchert.
This is a welcome change, as it should translate to less production, which means less pollution.
According to the Mullen release, the Qiantu K50 is still on target to be released by the end of 2019. It will be available in two versions, Premium and Sport +. The limited signature series will have a 100 kWh battery, 800 Nm of torque (590 lb ft), 447 kW (600 HP) and 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds.
The official price was announced as well — $123,500.
