Siemens Gamesa Signs Wind Turbine Supply Contract For 249 Megawatt Mexican Wind Project
Spanish wind energy giant Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy announced on Monday that it had signed its first contract to supply its new 4.X wind turbine platform to two Mexican wind farms worth a total of 249 megawatts (MW).
Siemens Gamesa revealed that it had signed a contract with Enel Green Power to supply 24 of its new SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with a flexible power rating of 4.2 MW for the 100 MW Parque Amistad III wind project and another 36 units for the 149 MW Parque Amistad IV, both of which are located in Acuña City, in the northern State of Coahuila, Mexico.
Both Parque Amistad projects were awarded to Enel Green Power, the global renewable energy business of the Italian Enel Group, during Mexico’s third Long-term Auction announced in November 2017, alongside Parque Amistad II, also of 100 MW capacity. Siemens Gamesa will provide a 5-year service and maintenance contract after commissioning for both projects, both of which will benefit from locally-manufactured nacelles, blades, and towers.
“We are very excited to be able to provide our new generation of onshore wind turbines to Enel Green Power’s projects,” said Jorge Lobatón, Siemens Gamesa’s Onshore Managing Director for Mexico and Latam. “We look forward to the successful implementation of Amistad III and IV. These projects are two of the most relevant wind farms projects in Mexico, which will position the state of Coahuila as one of the main players in renewable energy in the country.”
The order represents the company’s first order for its new generation of onshore wind turbines of greater than 4 MW. Siemens Gamesa’s SG 4.5-145 turbines feature best-in-class Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCoE), a tower height of 107.5 meters, and a flexible power rating ranging from 4.2 MW to 4.8 MW — adjustable depending on the specific requirements of the site.
This is not the first time, however, that a 4+ MW wind turbine has been awarded to supply a project, as Vestas’ V150-4.2 MW wind turbine is the largest in the company’s portfolio and only last month was contracted to supply the 336 MW Dundonnell Wind Farm in Australia’s south.
