One of the United States’ leading residential solar-plus-storage services, Sunnova, announced earlier this month that it was expanding its offerings in the Lone Star State, as it makes its SunSafe solar-plus-batter storage offering available to homeowners in its home state of Texas.

“There are two things you should never bet against — adoption of technology and consumer choice — and in Texas we’re seeing that firsthand with the demand of residential solar plus storage,” said William J. (John) Berger, Chief Executive Officer of Sunnova Energy Corporation. “Sunnova’s newly available solar plus battery storage offering provides Texan homeowners with an added layer of energy reliability and freedom that utilities can’t provide. Texas has been the epicenter for transformative energy technologies for years and, as such, it’s only fitting that homeowners across our Lone Star State will play a critical role in our mission to help power energy independence.”

Sunnova announced on November 1 that it would be offering its Sunnova SunSafe solar-plus-battery storage service to homeowners in Texas, which is provided with a 25-year contract with comprehensive warranty and performance guarantee. According to Sunnova’s press release, “Sunnova’s SunSafe™ offering in Texas is a customized solar plus battery storage technology system designed to replace much of the energy homeowners normally consume from the electrical grid, day and night. Sunnova SunSafe™ maximizes the use of the energy produced by the solar system, significantly reducing consumer dependence upon the grid and in some cases eliminating it all together.”

“In Texas, we’ve seen firsthand the devastation caused by storms and hurricanes, and homeowners across the state want to ensure they’re protecting their families from extended power outages and electricity instability,” said Michael Grasso, Chief Marketing Officer for Sunnova Energy Corporation. “By offering Sunnova SunSafe™, homeowners are given that peace of mind knowing that they’ll have reliable energy, day and night.”

“Texans are no strangers to natural disasters, as seen by Hurricane Harvey, and solar plus battery storage provides Texan homeowners an added layer of energy reliability and freedom that utilities can’t provide,” added Kelsey Smith, Director, Executive Communications and Strategy, Sunnova Energy Cooperation. “We want to give homeowners across the state a choice and opportunity to choose solar plus storage and to power their own energy independence.”

This choice and independence is already yielding results for Sunnova, according to Smith, who added that, “People in Texas want energy reliability and peace of mind. They want to know that when the grid goes down, their families will still have power. As a result, in Texas, the demand for solar plus storage is continuing to grow as the awareness around solar plus storage continues to grow.”

Sunnova — the seventh leading solar-plus-storage company in the world, according to figures published by Navigant Research last month — currently offers its Sunnova SunSafe service in Hawaii, Arizona, California, Puerto Rico, and Massachusetts, and adds it to services already offered in Texas such as its Easy Save, Save Monthly, and Easy Own. The move comes less than three months after the company announced that it was expanding into Illinois, starting out initially with solar lease options, and with the intention of quickly expanding to include its solar loan products.

“The US power industry is undergoing a rapid amount of change due to a confluence of technologies, specifically solar, storage and control electronics, and solar plus storage is a game-changer,” Sunnova’s Kelsey Smith concluded. “There are increasing numbers of customers who are looking to leverage this technology for greater energy reliability, and unlike solar-only power systems that do not have a battery, solar plus storage will continue to produce and store energy when the power grid is down or idle, giving homeowners backup power for their critical loads.”
