New Go Kart Kit Transforms Segway’s 2-Wheel People Mover Into A Go Kart

Segway is moving a new direction with a new mini-electric vehicle kit that looks like the makings of a rather serious electric go-kart. The new offering is call the Ninebot Electric Gokart and it looks like some wicked fun waiting to happen.

They call it a “Big toy for small children and small racing car for adults,” which just makes me laugh. If this thing can haul around my 200-pound frame, I’m a bit fearful of what it could do with my 50-pound kids behind the wheel.

On the technical side, the “Gokart kit” takes what is basically a slimmed down version of the original Segway that they now call a Ninebot by Segway miniPRO320 and built a go kart frame around it. That means that it retains all the functionality of the original mobility device, with its 310 watt-hour battery and knee bar controls, while adding in a bonus in the form of a go kart.

That additional functionality can be had today, including the Ninebot by Segway miniPRO320 on the IndieGogo campaign for the Gokart for what feels like a great deal at $1,149. Compared to the $599 retail price of the miniPRO320 by itself (or $469 Super Early Bird pricing on the IndieGogo campaign), that’s only a few hundred bucks more for what looks like a ton of extra fun.

It’s not going to get you to work in the morning, but it may just put enough smiles on your face after work that you won’t mind going to work so much the next morning. The MSRP of the Gokart kit after the IndieGogo campaign is listed at $1,450, but who knows what it will end up at after the campaign.

The little beasty has 3 driving modes, presumably to allow junior riders and adults to have fun on the same platform in a safe manner. Drivers (or their parents) can switch between modes on the mobile app that connects to the powertrain via Bluetooth and also serves as a gauge cluster for those interested in seeing speed, range and the like while tearing around the neighborhood.
