Uniti Opens UK R&D Center In High-Performance Technology & Motorsport Park
England is where most Formula One teams have their headquarters. Grand Prix teams such as Williams, McLaren, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, and Force India have their headquarters near the Silverstone racing circuit in what has come to be known at the High Performance Technology and Motorsport park. As a result, some of the world’s most talented automotive engineers are located there, which has drawn many of the teams involved in Formula E, the world’s first international racing series for open wheel electric cars, to the area.
Uniti, the Swedish electric car startup created by engineering students, has announced that it is opening a research and development center nearby in order to tap into all that talent. In an e-mail to CleanTechnica, Sally Povolotsky, Uniti’s director of vehicle development, says “The focus of the UK team is to transform our Uniti One prototype into a production-ready, globally homologated vehicle with an increased emphasis on safety and environmental protection. Placing a team in Silverstone helps us achieve our goal, as we get to work closely with advanced engineering talent with locally specific expertise in electric powertrains and lightweight composite materials — the fundamentals of clean mobility.”

The first production cars from Uniti are expected to be revealed in late 2019 with sales beginning shortly thereafter. The UK represents a key market for Uniti and is an integral component of its brand launch strategy, the company says.
“We see Britain as a world leader in the development of clean mobility,” says Uniti CEO, Lewis Horne. “From high performance Formula One cars to alternative energy, British engineers have always had an excellent reputation for innovation. By accelerating their transition to
ultra low emission vehicles, the UK has set a clear path for companies such as Uniti to come in and work together toward a more sustainable future.”
