Tidbits From Picking Up Our Tesla Model 3 At The End Of Quarter 3

On Saturday, September 29, my son Finn and I picked up our dual motor, long range, Autopilot-enabled Model 3!

Since March 2016. Finn has had the Model 3 drawing pinned to his wall and here is the real thing. Magic!

The end of quarter delivery lunacy was all that it was built up to be. At the Mount Kisco, New York, Tesla store, they delivered 100 cars on Friday, September 28; 133 cars on Saturday, September 29; and 70 cars on Sunday, September 30. These were mostly Model 3s and a few Ss and Xs.

My parents live in New Hampshire and theirs was delivered to them on a flatbed truck.

All recipients were informed to watch all the intro videos about the car so that once the paperwork was done, they could drive you to the accessory lot and in 20 minuets of look over and any questions answered off you went.

There were several car transport trucks taking away the trade-in vehicles, about 90 on them. That day, there were 3 Chevy Bolts traded in, Volvos, Priuses (Prii), BMWs (3 Series, 4 Series, and 5 Series), and one truck.
I drove the 1 hour trip home in “chill” mode, as I was worried about unleashing the beast on our first outing.

There are four Model 3s in a 3 block radius of my house and four Ss and Xs. It is not a “gated lefty millionaire colony,” but many people have spent 2–3× more on their Teslas than they would usually spend on cars. They see the long-term personal and global benefits outweighing the higher cost.

The state of Connecticut changed its laws this summer, ending net metering at the end of this year! We were waiting for Tesla solar tiles/shingles, but to be grandfathered into net metering, we will have a new roof installed and panels racked on top in the next month.

So far, 6 out of my 12 work colleagues (doctors) have installed solar systems of 9–18 kW in the past 6 months. The one Trump supporter in our group installed the 18 kW solar system! So, there’s more evidence that renewable energy just makes sense (dollars and cents).
