New Mexico Approves Pattern Energy’s 2.2 Gigawatt Corona Wind Projects Plan

The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has opened the door for Pattern Energy to begin construction on an estimated 950 wind turbines as part of its Corona Wind Projects which will boast capacity of 2,200 megawatts (MW).

Pattern Energy builds Panhandle Wind Farm for CREZ.Pattern Energy announced on Friday that the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission had voted unanimously in favor (4-0) to approve the location control permit for the 2,200 MW Corona Wind Projects, allowing construction to begin on what Pattern Energy expects will be approximately 950 wind turbines.

“We greatly appreciate the commission’s diligent work to ensure that we had an effective review process, that our filing was complete and that New Mexico residents will continue to benefit from our initiative,” said Mike Garland, CEO of Pattern Development. “Our team is now able to move forward with the Corona Wind Projects, creating over a thousand new construction jobs and generating billions of dollars in economic impact, while continuing to progress New Mexico as a leader in wind energy.”

Set to be built near Corona in Lincoln County, New Mexico, and expected to be completed by the end of 2020, the projects are estimated to generate $3.8 billion in economic impact for the region, hiring hundreds of workers during construction and supporting approximately 100 jobs during operation.
