Spanish renewable energy giant Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has announced this week that it will supply 233 megawatts (MW) worth of wind turbines to eight wind farms across Spain, for a total of 70 turbines.

Despite lackluster and hard fought 2018 earnings, Siemens Gamesa continues to rake in supply contracts, highlighting the current duality of developed renewable energy technologies — declining costs combined with increased demand. Siemens Gamesa framed its latest supply announcement as proof that it continues to win new contracts in Spain — with new Spanish orders totaling 874 MW in recent months — cementing its position as the country’s leading turbine original equipment manufacturer.

Siemens Gamesa announced on Monday that it had sealed deals with three major energy companies — WPD, Brial, and an unnamed entity — to supply 233 MW of wind capacity across eight wind farms being developed in the Spanish provinces of Zaragoza and Valladolid during the first half of 2019.

Specifically, Siemens Gamesa will provide 39 of its SG 3.4-132 turbines worth 135 MW to independent power provider WPD at the El Poleo, Las Panaderas, and Navillas wind farms, all of which are located in the province of Valladolid. Additionally, the company will provide a mix of 20 turbines — the company’s SG 3.4-132, SG 2.1-114, and SG 2.6-126 models — worth 62 MW for the Tinajeros, Agón, La Nava, and Los Cierzos wind farm developments in the province of Zaragoza. Finally, Siemens Gamesa will also supply 11 turbines worth 36 MW to an unnamed “important energy company” in Zaragoza.

Siemens Gamesa will not only supply the wind turbines, but it will also operate and maintain each of the eight new projects. The majority of the wind turbine blades will be made at the company’s factories in Spain, including the Aoiz factory in Navarre and the As Samozas factory in Galicia, with the remainder being build at the Moroccan facility in Tangier. The nacelles will all be manufactured at the Ágreda factory in Soria, in Spain’s north central region.
