Creative Homeowner Uses Tesla & New Doorbell Technology To Receive Packages Remotely

I’ll start off with the admission that this isn’t a cleantech, post but we’re nerds for technology and leveraging it to make our lives easier. Some of the cleantech solutions we feature — like tech-enabled Tesla vehicles — come with side benefits that can make some of our first-world problems go away.

Aidan O’Byrne has a video-enabled doorbell that also allows for two-way communication. Whenever the doorbell is rung, it pops up a notification on his smart device and allows him to stream data from it. In this case, it was a delivery guy who needed to drop off a few packages. Aidan was on his game and chimed in through the doorbell speaker to chat with the delivery guy.

This was clearly not an accidental solution, as Aidan also recorded the exchange from a number of angles and retrieved the footage of the exchange from his doorbell (which just sounds odd, to be frank) after the fact. He then proceeded to pop the trunk on his Model X from his phone and asked the delivery guy to put the packages into it. It’s a pretty fun way to utilize technology to shave off some of the rough edges that life can throw at us. Being able to order all sorts of goodies at the touch of a finger is awesome. Having them stolen from the stoop is the opposite of awesome.

Props to Aidan for putting this fun combo solution, and while I don’t own a car that has a remote opening and closing trunk, this has my mind spinning to find a solution for secure package drops at our place.
