This Sunday at the fabulous Ace Hotel in the heart of LA’s bustling garment district (not yet completely ruined by exorbitant rents) Study Hall LA will bring some of the biggest names in sustainable fashion to the city where so much fast fashion is born even H&M opened a studio here. I wish the entire LA apparel industry would attend this event. The vast majority of brands in LA could care less how their clothes are made, as long as it’s cheap.

This afternoon, Sunday School at its finest, could serve as an inspirational lesson to them all. After all, if G-Star Raw and C&A can make Cradle to Cradle clothing at prices comparable to their other offerings, why can’t any of the denim houses in LA do so as well? Tickets are available here. If you can’t make it in person, you’ll be able to read about it here, as I’ll be covering the event.

Take this €4 t-shirt from C&A —  it’s certified C2C gold. I found it hard to believe that something so cheap could meet stringent labor standards. So I looked it up here, and well, they have to at least pass audits to earn this level of certification. Yet so many LA brands I’ve worked with swear it’s impossible.

If you or someone you know is interested in or involved in the schmatta biz, they should not miss this conference. It’s the future. Get on this trend or be left sitting on unsold inventory.

This is the second in a series of conferences around sustainable literacy in collaboration with MIT Media Lab, G-Star RAW & Ace Hotel. The themes that will be explored, as part of this critically-acclaimed conference series, are: Circularity, Denim, & Human Rights.

This event is powered by: Fair Trade USA, Fashion Revolution USA, Eileen Fisher, G-Star RAW, Soorty, Chronicles & Better Kinds, and Remode.
