France Awards 720 Megawatts Of Solar To 103 Projects In Latest Tender
France’s Ministry for Ecological and Solidary Transition has this week awarded 720 megawatts (MW) worth of new solar capacity across 103 separate projects out of its fourth solar tender.
Nicolas Hulot, the Minister of State and Minister for the Ecological and Solidary Transition, announced on Monday that his Ministry had designated 103 large-scale ground-based solar projects as winners of the fourth phase of the country’s solar tender series — the fourth of six planned tenders. Total capacity awarded amounted to 720 MW and were awarded at an average price of €58.2 MW-hours (MWh), down 5% compared to the previous period.
The Minister said that he was pleased “all French regions can benefit from the large-scale development of solar photovoltaics. The energy transition is now taking place everywhere, in all territories. This is made possible in particular by the increase in volumes and the bonus on the environmental relevance of the site set up in this call for tenders.”
France’s 3-year solar tender series is expected to award a total of 3,000 MW worth of solar across the country. The next two tenders are both expected to award around 850 MW. The successful projects from this tender were awarded in two categories — projects ranging in size from 500 kW to 5 MW, and between 5 MW and 30 MW. Interestingly, while the average price across the entire tender was €58.2 MWh, the average price for the large-scale was an impressive €52 MWh, the lowest price recorded in France for solar.
The majority of projects will be developed across the southern regions of Nouvelle Aquitaine (168.6 MW), Occitanie (157.3 MW), Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (79.5MW). The complete list of awarded projects are below:
