Polestar continues its world tour next month with a stop at Monterey Car Week, where the Polestar 1 will make its North American debut. The car will be on display in a number of locations around the famed Monterey Bay area, including the centerpiece of Monterey Car Week — the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

“It’s great to bring Polestar to America,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer at Polestar. “North America is a major market for our new brand and we have received great feedback and high interest in the Polestar 1 from our American customers. So far, nearly 200 customers have placed deposits in the United States alone – the largest number of any country. Now it’s their turn to see the car in person and in a beautiful environment.”

Monterey Car Week has long been a destination for those seeking the ultimate in luxurious and indulgent automobiles, making it the perfect showcase for the North American debut of the Polestar 1. This isn’t just another automobile reveal, this is the redefinition of a brand. Volvo is attempting to redefine the automobile experience with this new electric lineup that won’t ever be available for purchase, only on a subscription basis.

The show runs from August 23rd through August 26th this year and will see the new Polestar 1 hosted at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on Friday August 24th. The gathering regularly plays host to some of the most rare and unique automotive creations that come to Car Week. For the majority of the event, the Polestar 1 will call the Polestar pavilion on Peter Hay Hill at Pebble Beach its home before it lands at the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday the 26th.

From the unveiling in Geneva, we know that the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid vehicle will have an all-electric range of 150 kilometers on the NEDC cycle which is achieved thanks to two batteries totaling 34 kWh of storage capacity. The 600 horsepower, 1000 NM of torque vehicle has the specs to wow the competition, but with a production volume of only 500 cars per year, it has already established itself as little more than a high-volume production concept hybrid.

Looking to the future of the Polestar brand reveals a host of fully-electric, higher volume vehicles with the introduction of the Polestar 2 and 3 promised just around the corner. Polestar is largely supported by Volvo for the time being and plans to feed the lessons it learns back to the mothership as it cuts the path forward for the entire company, into a future that is increasingly connected, autonomous, shared and electric.
