BYD has received an order for 24 electric buses for the province of Södermanland’s public transit operator, Nobina.

Nobina is pushing forward with its commitment to, “Continuously decrease our emissions to air, land and waters.” This commitment has driven the transit agency to purchase BYD electric buses for the fleets it operates in Ängelholm, Oslo, Nortällje, and Landskrona, totaling orders for 50 buses for Nobina.

“We are determined to be in the forefront of bus and fleet operations, developing smart and sustainable ebus solutions to the public transport authorities of the Nordics,” Martin Atterhall, fleet manager for the Nobina Group, said. “The experience we have had with other BYD models has convinced us that we can move ahead with confidence to add further ebuses to our fleet and look forward to the cleaner and more comfortable traffic which will follow.”

The buses purchased for Södermanland will be delivered in the middle of 2019 by BYD, which is clearly encouraged by the success of the pilot buses and subsequent orders in Sweden. Isbrand Ho, Managing Director at BYD Europe, said, “BYD’s efforts in the Scandinavian market are paying off. Our recent orders in not only the Swedish but also in the Norwegian market have made BYD one of the leaders in the electric bus field. Winning this order gives us more confidence to win more in this important market. We are looking forward to turning Scandinavia even greener.”

Looking over to neighboring Norway, BYD just received two orders for a total of 42 of its much larger articulated electric buses for the capital city of Oslo, also operated by Nobina.

BYD has found solid footing in many European markets but seems to be struggling to achieve a similar foothold in North American markets, even with its Lancaster Bus factory being located in the heart of Southern California. BYD continues to expand its Lancaster factory in hopes of booming orders in the coming years, having recently tripled the square footage in the factory and, more recently, adding a parts warehouse to the facility.
