Electric Mobility Is Everywhere — The Monaco Solar Boat Challenge Seeks To Boost The Solar Maritime Industry
Most electric mobility news is centered around electric vehicles (EVs) with wheels, and now also electric aircraft, but the electric maritime world isn’t left alone either. Case in point: Monaco is putting on the Solar Boat Energy Challenge.
Monaco Puts On The Solar Energy Boat Challenge
Monaco is home to many amazing things, if transportation is your cup of tea. From the Alpine classic car rallies where I learned to drive, to the world-famous Formula 1 city course, Monaco also docks some of the most prestigious and unusual boats. The Monaco Solar Energy Boat Challenge seeks to help and improve electric energy in the maritime world.
With four previous challenges behind, the 4th Monaco Solar Energy Boat Challenge is a fascinating event that joins clean technical and creative solutions.
The Yacht Club de Monaco wants to expand its Monaco Solar Energy Boat Challenge event to include more clean energy sources, something we particularly welcome at CleanTechnica. The goal of the challenge is to promote maritime green propulsion systems as well as help develop them for commercial use. The Monaco Solar Energy Boat Challenge is organized in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Hydros Foundation, and the International Powerboating Federation. This clean maritime energy race is unique and the only one of its kind in the world.
According to the challenge website, the purpose is to encourage technological innovation and help the maritime industries to become more sustainable.
According to the Yacht Club of Monaco General Secretary, Bernard d’Alessandri: “Our wish is to bring together a new generation of engineers to imagine and build the motorboats of tomorrow. It is an integral part of the Principality’s commitment to the environment, spearheaded by our President Prince Albert II. If we want to position Monaco as the capital of yachting, we are duty-bound to play our part in these technical advances. These students are reinventing motorboating, they are creating their future by building a cleaner tomorrow. How can we not support them?”
Has Electric Mobility Reached Every Transportation Avenue?
As we continue our third year covering the budding electric maritime and aviation industries, we can’t help but ask if all transportation frontiers have been affected by the electrification of mobility. Short of electric business jets or if and how Elon Musk can make an electric supersonic airplane, electric mobility is affecting every mobility industry segment we can think of. One thing is for certain: the electric maritime industry is set to come to full maturity by 2027.
Unless you are in Monaco, don’t rush to travel to see the Monaco Solar Energy Boat Challenge. We’ll see you there next year!
