The heir apparent, Prince Charles, is reportedly considering adding a new electric car to his stable of alternative fuel vehicles and has narrowed the choices down to just two: a Tesla or Jaguar’s new I-PACE.

Prince Charles recently hosted Kimbal Musk, and the two engaged in healthy discussion about all things electric cars. Kimbal sits on the board at Tesla, and while he has largely focused his efforts on local, healthy food with his efforts at Next Door Eatery and Square Roots vertical farming, he continues to be a proponent of electric vehicles.

Prince Charles has driven the Tesla Model S and is reportedly considering adding an electric car to his automotive stable. Kimbal shared a few thoughts from their time together on Twitter:

“It was a pleasure to meet Prince Charles. He is an amazingly thoughtful and smart guy. He was furious that British car makers had told him electric cars were not possible. Shame on them. It sounds like they are finally coming around.”

According to Motor 1, Prince Charles has been spotted speeding around in a pre-production Jaguar I-PACE earlier this year. The Prince of Wales has a long history with Jaguar, with a Jaguar XJ among the hundreds of vehicles in his collection.

What may come as a surprise is that of those 100 or so vehicles, most of them run on an environmentally-friendly fuel derived from cooking oil. Don’t expect him to be lingering around the back door of restaurants for his daily fuel pickup, but its great to see a world leader pushing the envelope as to what’s possible with alternatives to petroleum. Sky News shared a bit more detail about his vehicles:

“In order to reduce net emissions from car travel, the Prince’s Jaguars, Audi and Range Rover have been converted to run on 100% biodiesel made from used cooking oil, and his 40-year-old Aston Martin to run on 100% bioethanol made from waste wine.”

The Telegraph reported that an official representative shared that, “there is definitely a plan for us to incorporate electric cars into the royal fleet.”

Prince Harry and Megan Markle made a splash for electric vehicles at their royal wedding last month when they drove away from the ceremony in a beautiful 1968 Jaguar E-Type that had been converted into a fully electric vehicle.
