The folks over at TeamGee reached out to us about their latest electric skateboard, the H9. From the specs, this thing has the potential to disrupt the electric skateboard market, with an early bird price point of just $499 on its Indiegogo campaign, or $899 for two. The list price shows as $1,199, so that’s a crazy discount for a board with such impressive specs.

Regarding those specs, the TeamGee H9 is impressive because it packs all of its batteries into the deck. We’ve seen that in other boards like the Evolve Skateboard Carbon GT, but that’s nowhere near this price point. The H9 also sets a very high bar in terms of portability, weighing in at just 13 pounds | 5.9 kilograms and is still able to squeeze out an impressive 11 miles | 17.7 kilometers on a charge.

In addition, the H9 sports high quality build materials and drop-in trucks for an even lower, more stable ride. Check out the full specs for this electric beast of a longboard:

  • Deck Material: Canadian Maple and Carbon Fiber
  • Dimensions: 940mm x 215mm x 120mm
  • Motor dimensions: 80mm x 52mm
  • Motor Power: 2 x 350 watt in-wheel hub motors
  • Max Incline: 30%, 15-20 degrees
  • Max load: 280 pounds | 130 kilograms
  • Rated voltage: 36 volts 3.5Ah
  • Weight: 13 pounds | 5.8 kilograms
  • Wheel Material: polyurethane
  • Battery Chemistry: Lithium Polymer
  • Max Speed: 23 miles per hour | 37 kilometers per hour
  • Range per charge: 11 miles | 17.7 kilometers
  • Charging time: 2 hours (0%-100%)

What really sets the TeamGee H9 apart is its build. Weighing in at just 11 pounds makes the H9 one of the lighter electric skateboards on the market without having to compromise on range. The TeamGee H9’s 11 miles of range is impressive considering that it only weighs 13 pounds. That impressive range to weight ration speaks to the build quality and technology used in the H9.

The H9 was designed to hide all of the batteries inside the deck, resulting in a streamlined deck that doesn’t have any awkward bulges to worry about. It’s a slick carbon fiber and Canadian Maple build that also speaks to the quality of the materials used. The trade-off is that the board is extremely stiff. Some riders like this, as it gives them more control over the board without having to take flex into account, while many riders prefer the flexible nature of the bamboo decks.

The TeamGee H9 is also a speed powerhouse. Sporting a top speed of 23 miles per hour, it absolutely flies around on city streets and school campuses. It also means that this is the part of the review where it’s important to remind readers and potential riders that it’s always a great idea to wear pads and helmets when riding personal electric transportation solutions at anything close to this kind of speed. It may be your first ride on a board that results in a crash, or it may be your 50th, but one thing is for sure, it’ll hurt when it happens. Pads help. I personally wear a helmet plus knee, elbow, and wrist guards when riding, and that’s only because I’ve had more than my fair share of accidents in my two decades of riding.

The opposite of acceleration, and perhaps even more important, is braking. The TeamGee H9 has built-in brakes that allow the rider to slow the board down to a complete stop. They are extremely effective and it’s worth taking the time to get familiar with the braking capability of the board before you lay into the accelerator too much. Also, easing into the brake instead of slamming it on, as it will buck you off if you’re not careful.

The light weight of the H9 isn’t just about a slim profile, but rather is a key feature for commuters looking for a solution for the last mile. Personal electric transportation solutions are great for getting to a bus stop and from the bus stop to work/school/the local ice cream parlor, and can make public transit a real option for many consumers that live or work too far from the nearest stop. For me, our new home is just over a mile from the nearest bus stop and on the other end, it’s just under a mile to the coffee shop where I normally work. Having an electric skateboard makes those legs of the journey that much more practical as I plan out my day.

The H9’s lighter 11-pound build also makes it that much easier to use to get to and from bus and rail stations. Why carry more weight around when a lighter weight board like the H9 can do the job with less bulk?
