Formula E Founder Alejandro Agag Introduces The Jaguar I-PACE For This Year’s Electric Racing Season
Alejandro Agag will introduce the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY this Saturday, May 19, on the Berlin Tempelhof Circuit for the start of the 2018/19 season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. Get ready for another season of electric racing!
It’s Official, The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY Is Here!
Sometimes it feels as if we’ve been hearing about the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race car forever, but even the concept of electric car racing isn’t all that new. Considering the I-PACE eTROPHY is now knocking at our door, we can only rejoice in seeing this project come to fruition, unlike some from certain OEMs.
The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will be unveiled on the Berlin track for the next Formula E championship 2018 season tomorrow, and CleanTechnica will have someone on the ground to hopefully pick up a few tidbits and beautiful photos.
All in all, we have to admit that Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Formula E, pulled off an incredible feat. Two years to pull together a successful Formula racing event is unheard of. Although many have tried, no others have succeeded. Agag’s tour de force inventing and implementing an electric Formula race championship was a titanic adventure. Many initial responses to the concept shot it down as hopeless, dead on arrival, illogical. Agag proved them wrong.
To cement this impressive achievement, Agag will be driving the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race car this weekend in Berlin ahead of the E-Prix. Drop in for a viewing if you’re in the area, and send us some pics or videos if you do.
The World’s First Production EV Championship Kicks Off!
Set your calendar for the world’s first production EV championship this year for the season 2018–2019.
According to Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Formula E: “I’m honoured to drive the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY racecar in Berlin — it’s an exciting day for not only Jaguar but the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. When we launched the eTROPHY series I said I wanted to get behind the wheel and here we are eight months later. This glimpse into the future will be a special moment for the championship as we look ahead to the next generation of electric racing.”
James Barclay, Team Director Jaguar Racing, followed up by saying: “We are delighted that Alejandro will be the first person to drive the eTROPHY racecar. He has been such a strong supporter of Jaguar following our entry into Formula E.
“Jaguar returned to racing with the mission to ‘Race to Innovate’. For Jaguar Racing this is another step on our commitment to electrification. We launched the Jaguar I-PACE earlier this year, which applies learnings from our time in Formula E and transfers them to the development of our electric road cars. Now, we will see the next step in our electrification journey as our Special Vehicle Operations team adapt the Jaguar I-PACE for the world’s first production battery electric vehicle championship.”
Why The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY Is Such A Big Deal
The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY is big deal in many ways and it might be the competition that we’ve been waiting for. In many ways, Jaguar offers the same luxury, performance, and rebellious DNA that Tesla offers. The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY delivers what the company calls a complete “Arrive and Drive” package for 20 drivers, which is not too unlike some gasoline car cup events available today. It is, however, the first one for EVs.
Get ready. This is a new era in racing. And it’s just starting.
