Spanish renewable energy and infrastructure group ACCIONA has this week launched a new campaign focused on challenging the investment community to reexamine their investment strategies with a particular focus on sustainability.

The new campaign, Invest In The Planet, serves to challenge companies, financial markets, governments, and consumers to align their investment strategies with the protection of the planet. ACCIONA adds that the practice of sustainability needs to evolve if it is to remain relevant in this constantly changing world.

ACCIONA, which became carbon neutral in 2016, has placed sustainability at the heart of its business model — defined as “the equilibrium of social, economic, and environmental well-being” — and is now looking to expand its role to challenge those outside the company to similarly uphold a wider and stricter view of sustainability. The company’s sustainability actions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the UN in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda. Specifically, they focus on three separate sustainability goals: ensuring clean water and sanitation for all; ensuring universal access to affordable, non-polluting energy; and building resilient infrastructure to achieve sustainable development.

The new Investment In The Planet campaign will focus first of all on some of ACCIONA’s key markets — Spain, Mexico, Chile, the United States, Canada, and Australia. The company will roll out a new advertising campaign in two stages:

  • A first stage seeks to pose the question: “What if the smartest decision was to invest in the planet?” Starting on April 22nd (International Mother Earth Day), the campaign will be broadcast for two weeks, until May 6th.
  • The second campaign stage sends two messages: “Experts in designing a better planet” and “There is another way of doing things”. Launched on May 7th, it will run for more than four weeks and end on World Environment Day on June 5th.

ACCIONA will be involving ambassadors to support and promote the new campaign, and have already kicked it off with Australian actor (and secondary Hemsworth) Liam Hemsworth, likely most well known from his role in The Hunger Games movies.
