Nissan will be launching 3 new plug-in electric vehicle models and 5 new e-POWER models by the end of fiscal year 2022 in Japan, the company has revealed via a new press release.

The company is reportedly expecting such models to make up around 40% of sales in Japan by that time period as well, interestingly — further suggesting that the company is aiming to replace sales of many of its current petrol/gasoline-powered models with e-POWER sales within just the next few years.

Adding to that, the company is reportedly aiming for half of the models it sells to be plug-in electric or e-POWER models by fiscal year 2025 in Japan.

Commenting on the plans, Nissan’s executive vice president for global marketing and sales, zero-emission vehicles and the battery business (and also chairman of the Management Committee for Japan/Asia & Oceania), Daniele Schillaci, stated: “As our domestic market, we are proud that Japan is leading the way forward when it comes to Nissan Intelligent Mobility. This vision is changing the customer experience by delivering technologies and services that are making their lives better and also enabling steady profitable growth through Nissan M.O.V.E. to 2022.”

The press release provides more: “The Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision will also have an expanded footprint throughout the company’s dealerships. Nissan will develop a new store format centered around the customer shopping area and build new walk-in stores and brand experience stores that give customers the Nissan Intelligent Mobility experience.

“Every step of the car-buying process will be increasingly digitalized, from initial purchase consideration to aftersales. Moving away from a conventional, fragmented service model, Nissan will create one that provides customers the service they need, when they need it.”

Notably, in relation to that, the company will also be working to further expand its carsharing services business. The plan is for the company to expand carsharing service locations in Japan from 30 to 500 by the end of the year.
