Electric Supercar Tipping Point With Pagani Working On Its Electric Hypercar

Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and now Pagani are dipping their toes into the electric vehicle (EV) world of electric hypercars. If the tipping point for EV awareness has been reached a while back, this latest exotic gasoline carmaker turning to a new electric chapter is proof the electric drivetrain is the way to go.

Pagani Future EV

How Much More Performance Can EVs Show?

The juggernaut development of the electric drivetrain this past decade or two has been spectacular. From heavy to light batteries, roadsters, sedans, and motorcycles have clearly joined in, as well as newer trucks, buses, airplanes, boats, etc.

Performance was always high on the list with EVs. The Tesla Roadster’s original performance was a wakeup call and the stellar safety ratings achieved by the Tesla Model S helped put EVs on the radar. Still, nothing works better than racing. Formula E, Electric GT Championship, and a few other races have shown that the electric motor is a formidable foe for the venerable yet ancient gasoline engine. There was the very public humiliation of Alta Motors using last year’s client Redshift electric motorcycle to beat today’s very best supercross gasoline competition. And there was that time when Lightning Motorcycles put well over 20 seconds in the front of the best Ducati fleet at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. How much more bright red neon writing on the wall do traditional carmakers need?

But the party doesn’t really start until the superstars come in. In the automotive world, that is Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and the few limited high-end exotic carmakers. Ferrari and Porsche have already answered the Tesla EV challenge (or tried to), each with a roadster and a sedan respectively. Now Pagani comes in and announces its own EV, spelling perhaps the beginning of exotic carmakers really turning away from gasoline.

Pagani Making An EV Is A Serious Change

Pagani Future EVWhen you make some of the most expensive and highest performance cars in the world, there isn’t much left to do to improve. In many ways, Pagani is reaching beyond what its direct competition is doing by leapfrogging them to electricity. By 2025, Pagani claims it will have an EV out.

Horacio Pagani just confirmed this and that the company is developing two new hypercars for the near future. Pagani announced an EV the company is already working on. The EV is currently being designed by a dedicated team of more than 20 engineers to help get it to the show floor by 2025.

The EV family is growing and not just limited to one sector only. It has challenged not just one aspect of our car culture but many segments — in the performance department, safety department, comfort department, connected tech department, and more. It’s hard to not want to use an electric motor’s formidable 100% torque — available as soon as it spins — and it sounds as if Pagani’s hyper EV will be a welcome addition.
