That’s it. The long wait for Jaguar’s electric I-PACE SUV is now over. We officially know what it is, what it looks like, what it will do, and when.

Jaguar Delivers on Its Electric I-PACE SUV

The goodies first: the electric Jaguar I-PACE boasts 240 miles of range, a 0 to 60 mph time in under 5 seconds, an 80% charge from depleted in 40 minutes, which means a 15-minute break could give it an extra 62 miles. With the perfect weight distribution of 50/50 split between the back and front of the vehicle, the battery packs power both the front and back electric motors, making it an all-wheel-drive vehicle.

Since it’s a Jaguar, we can expect a little more. In many ways, the I-PACE [official Jaguar page there] screams Tesla Model X competition with its 90 kWh battery pack. The I-PACE is fully connected and accessible through a mobile app that gives you all types of information, including its charge status of course. Jaguar wisely chose the over-the-air (OTA) way of delivering its updates, much like Tesla does. That’s in high demand with customers, CleanTechnica research has shown.

As far as the interior, Jaguar boosted the I-PACE with infotainment touchscreens, but didn’t neglect to include physical controls, just in case. This electric SUV has a lot of cargo space also. Jaguar didn’t disappoint in this department, with a claimed interior volume of nearly 400 gallons.

Racing EVs to Get the Public Onboard

Two EVs that are helping raise awareness around EVs are the Tesla Model S that will be raced in the Electric GT Championship and the Jaguar I-PACE that will also be raced.

Both are helping introduce how tomorrow’s car races will look — electric, silent, and quick.

As far as the road version of the I-PACE, it will come in three flavors, S, SE, and HSE. The differences are bigger wheels for the last two and more premium packages.

Making Sense of the Jaguar I-PACE

Pre-orders for the Jaguar I-PACE start now — well, a few hours ago. Deliveries are expected to start around the second half of 2018. We’ll have to wait next for the Geneva Motor Show for more information — a reporter will be on the ground for us to see if he can dig up any more details or nice shots of the electric SUV.

There you go, that should tide you over for a little bit. If you want to go ahead and reserve an I-PACE as a normal reservation or a “First Edition,” head over to its webpage.

In the meantime, you can follow the Jaguar I-PACE on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
